Susan M. Barnard recieved her Bachelor of Science degree in liberal studies from the University of the State of New York in 1983, and is currently Assistant Curator of Herpetology at Zoo Atlanta. She served on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, and is Executive Director of Basically Bats Inc. She has written over 70 papers on various aspects of reptilian husbandry, parasitology, and bat rehabilation. She makes routine television appearances.

Dr Lance A. Durden received his Bachelor of Science and PhD degrees in Zoology from the University of London. He is currently Associate Professor of Biology and Associate Curator of the U.S. National Tick Collection at Georgia Southern University. Dr Durden also holds research appointments at the U.S. National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution) in Washington DC and at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. He serves on the editorial boards of Medicial and Veterinary Entomology and Folia Parasitologica. He has authored more than 100 papers, onographs and book chapters, mainly on ectoparasites of vertebrates.
